GLTA Rules of Play
GLTA rules of play will be generally adhered to except where modified by the tournament director.
By participating in the Rose City Open, players agree with these tournament rules.
PAYMENTS
Registration fee can be paid by using PayPal or credit card on the GLTA registration page.
TOURNAMENT PLAY
Full Draws: Main draw singles and doubles matches will be the best 2 out of 3 sets. If a tiebreak is necessary at 6-6, the first to 7 points with a 2 point margin wins the set. The third set, except for the finals, will be played as a 10 point super tiebreaker with a 2 point margin. All finals will play a full third set.
Consolation: Consolation play will be offered to players who lose their first singles match. The match consists of one pro set with no-ad scoring. The first to 8 games with a 2 game margin wins. If a tiebreaker is necessary at 7-7, the first to 7 points with a 2 point margin wins. Consolation finals will be the best 2 out of 3 sets. If a tiebreak is necessary at 6-6, the first to 7 points with a 2 point margin wins the set. In place of a third set a 10 point tiebreak with a 2 point margin will be played. No consolation will be offered for doubles divisions. The tournament director reserves the right to cancel consolation play in the event of inclement weather or time constraint.
Report the match results to the tournament desk immediately after the match.
Scoring format is subject to change to accommodate scheduling delays.
TOURNAMENT RULES OF PLAY
Attire: You be you. Show your pride although non-marking shoes are required.
Check-in: Please report to the tournament desk 15 minutes prior to each match. Early check-ins may be asked to play early. Any appeals will be decided by the tournament director.
Warm-up: 5 minutes. Strictly enforced.
Late Arrival: Late arrivals will incur a penalty in accordance with the GLTA rules starting from the moment the match has been announced and a court is available. It is your responsibility to arrange transportation, get directions if necessary and leave yourself enough time to get to the venue.
0-5 min = loss of toss and 1 game; 5-10 min = loss of toss and 2 games; 10-15 min = loss of toss and 3 games; 15 min or more = default
Rest Breaks: 20 seconds between points (not counting tracking down balls); 90 seconds on changeovers; 2 minutes between sets.
Players are allowed a reasonable amount of time for bathroom breaks.
Scheduling: After completing a singles match a player is allowed up to 30 minutes before being required to play again, 15 minutes after a doubles match.
Substitutions: Only if a first match in a certain event is not played yet. It is always the discretion of the tournament director.
ETIQUETTE
Always enter the courts through the appropriate entrance. Avoid disturbing other matches.
Players shall not engage in unsportsmanlike conduct or disturb other players.
A player is not allowed to receive coaching during a match.
Do not enlist the aid of spectators in making line calls.
Wait until players on another court have finished a point before retrieving or returning a ball.
CANCELLATION
Participants who cancel their entry after June 6, 2020 will not receive a refund less the applicable PayPal fees.
WAIVER
In conjunction with participation in the Rose City Open 2020, hosted by the Team Portland Tennis Association (TPTA), and related activities and events, you agree to waive any and all rights and claims for bodily or emotional injury, injury to my reputation, or any other damage or harms that you might suffer, or any other claims of any nature you may have against the TPTA or the Gay and Lesbian Tennis Alliance (GLTA). You understand that you will be participating at your own risk, and the above organizations, facilities and individuals will not be responsible for any harm, injury, or damage which you might suffer. You also waive any and all rights to claim from the TPTA, GLTA, or any organization or individual, damages or remuneration which may arise as a result of references to you or photographs of you which may appear in any publication or other media. You understand that the TPTA will govern the conduct of players and enforce the USTA Code of Ethics and the GLTA Rules and Procedures. You agree to conduct yourself accordingly.
